Sekas & Co birdhouse heart

Thank you for your suggestions on how to finish the Marjorie Massey finish. I think a pin cushion is what it will be. I have seen some beautiful pin cushion finishes on the internet and will give it a try. On to new stitching finishes. At least I know how we’ll finish this one LOL.

One of the clubs we are running this year, are 12 different hearts by Sekas & Co. All the threads are converted to silks and the hearts are stitched on32 count Belfast. I haven’t posted all of them, but this is the one for July: Birdhouse Heart. We used Gloriana and Soie d’Alger silks.

They are great stitches, quick and you get to stitch a couple of specialty stitches as well. We finished them as heart pillows and once the year is over, I want to put them all on one long piece of ribbon and have a heart garland for the shop.

A late Easter project

This year we are stitching various hearts by Sekas & Co. Normally, these are done on 20 count fabric, but we changed it to 32 count Belfast and adjusted the threads accordingly. It is so much fun to pick out the threads each month. All of them are done in silks, some use metallics and some beads. Our plan is to put all 12 hearts at the end of the year on a ribbon and have a garland to hang around in the shop.

Anyways, so far a friend had stitched the hearts, but this month, I “needed” to do it myself. The hearts use different stitches and are a joy to work on. As April was the Easter month, we picked An Easter Egg Heart for this month. I changed the threads to Gloriana silks and Soie d’Alger silks and this is the result.

Tea Lover’s Heart

When shopping at the Nashville market we came across a new heart chart from Sekas & Co called Tea Lover’s Heart. As I knew a friend had a celebration coming up and as said friend loves tea cups and tea pots as well as quilting, I knew this was the perfect gift for her.

Now these charts call for 20ct fabrics and personally I am not too fond of those fabrics. So I converted the colors to silks and stitched the whole thing on 40ct Light Examplar Linen from Lakeside Linen. I used Soie d’Alger and Gloriana for the silks as well as some petite beads. Of course I didn’t have a lot of time stitching this and hwat usually happens is that when I’m short on time, I make a mistake and it will take even more time. Sounds familiar? Anyway, I had to take out the whole upper part of the design and restitch it, but managed to get it done in time.

Here’s the close-up picture of the heart unframed.

And here it is matted and framed.

I have a general dislike of stitching the same item twice, but in this case……..
